About EV Advisor
EV Advisor is an independent electric vehicle advisor for the Norwegian market, a project by Thornado. We do not store user accounts or personal profiles on our servers.
When you use the service, we may process information you enter in the form (budget, driving habits, optional plate number) to provide recommendations. Processing follows the Norwegian Personal Data Act and GDPR.
What data we process
Form data is used to score recommendations from structured vehicle data and your needs. When AI is enabled, a compact explanation context for the featured recommendation may be shared with an external AI provider for explanations and follow-up answers. We do not send the plate number in the initial explanation request, and AI does not determine the ranking. We do not send names, email addresses, or payment information in the advisor form.
Your shortlist is stored locally in your browser (localStorage). EV needs you confirm in the advisor or plate-fit flow may also be saved locally on this device across visits (still without an account or server profile). Temporary advisor preferences may stay in sessionStorage until you close the tab. Shared links may contain selected preferences in the URL. Optional plate lookup is sent to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration API when configured. The contact form sends your name, email, and message to us by email — we use them only to reply to your enquiry.
Cookies and local storage
Necessary cookies and local storage are used for language preference, your shortlist, saved EV needs, temporary advisor preferences, and to remember your cookie choice. These are required for the service to work as expected.
Optional: Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-5KC6EVC3VV) loads only after you accept the cookie notice. The script is deferred (after the page is interactive) to limit performance impact. We request IP anonymization and disable Google advertising signals. Analytics is used only for page views and technical browser/device information — not for ads. If you dismiss the notice without accepting, Analytics is not loaded. Clear localStorage in your browser to see the notice again and change your choice.
Third-party services
We fetch public data from sources including OpenEV Data, SSB, Norges Bank, MET Norway, hvakosterstrommen.no, and OpenStreetMap (charging stations). NOBIL is used when an API key is configured. Google Analytics is used only when you have accepted it in the cookie notice.
EV and market data sources receive technical requests from our server, not directly identifiable personal data from you, except plate numbers during lookup. When analytics is accepted, events are sent to Google (processing may occur outside the EEA). We ask Google for anonymized IP and no personalized advertising.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, and delete personal data we process about you, and to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet). Since we do not create user accounts, we have no central database of your information — you can clear your browser's localStorage to remove your shortlist and saved EV needs, or use “forget saved needs” in the advisor.
